“The Innsmouth Relic”
Recovered from the basement of the Gilman House in Innsmouth, Massachusetts following the Federal action of 1928. Object was discovered within a concealed lower chamber containing a crude altar to Dagon and Hydra. The chamber was connected to adjoining structures by a system of roughly carved subterranean tunnels, several of which descended toward the harbor and opened into the sea.
This fragmentary relief appears to depict a marine cult plaque or idol, its surface heavily encrusted with barnacle growth and marked by blue green patination over corroded bronze or copper alloy. The central eye motif, radiating fin forms, and detached secondary fragment suggest prolonged immersion in a tidal environment, though ritual placement cannot be ruled out. Surface glyphs remain undeciphered, though several correspond loosely to symbols recovered elsewhere in Innsmouth.
